"Complicated Artists" is a set of deep yet cartoon-like portraits of all types of people. A 60-year old woman decked out and ready to hit the town hangs next to a portrait of fresh-faced Kim Kardashian. The exhibit is an introduction to Quintanilla's first book: Complicated Artists. The book is a fine art coffee table book with large, colorful photographs shot by Quintanilla over the years.
“Complicated Artists," is the name I use to describe all of the people in my portraits. Every person has so many levels of self that make up who they are. It’s the common factor in us all. We all work through our complexities to present to the world who we want to be. We mold, we sculpt, we manipulate ourselves - like artists - and our identities are our final masterpieces,” says Quintanilla.
